Restraint Training
The Department of Education has mandated all public schools in Massachusetts to provide a “core” group of staff in each building to have in-depth training regarding physical restraint. The Southern Worcester County Educational Collaborative provides this mandated training via Applied Non-Violence. This is an eighteen hour course for novice participants and the certification covers a thirteen month period.
The Collaborative also offers a six hour annual recertification course to meet the requirements of the annual recertification for those who have taken the novice training.
Additionally, the Collaborative offers a three hour in-service covering a variety of Surface Behavior Management techniques for students at all grade and age levels. This in-service provides staff with multiple techniques to identify and deescalate potentially disruptive behaviors in the classroom.
