Trauma Informed Care in Schools

Southern Worcester County Educational Collaborative invites you to attend a professional development workshop focused on addressing trauma care within our school districts.  Our professionally trained School Adjustment Counselors, Behavioral Specialist and School Nurse Leader will be discussing trauma, outlining group and individual intervention as well as classroom accommodations and a medical overview. 

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Richard Hummel, PHD is a Clinical Psychologist practicing in Worcester, Massachusetts with a specialty in trauma sensitive care.

Overview of Trauma Informed Care in Schools topics will include:

  • What it means to be a trauma-informed school and the impact on learning and the hierarchy of needs
  • Externalization and internalization trauma, the social impact and the benefit of group-style interventions including play therapy at all levels
  • Classroom accommodations/interventions and building non-academic relationships within the school environment
  • The role of the school nurse as an interventionist and a team member and an overview of how to address somatic complaints

This will be a town hall style discussion for the purpose of sharing local impact of students experiencing trauma.

Audience:  Counselors, Administrators and those dealing with student who contend with trauma.
